Last night trying to survive listening to the completed thing I thought maybe I'll become the forum village idiot and post it hoping it might truly inspire other noobies on the forum with the mindset that they can't do any worse.
Great attitude! We all start somewhere, and much of what you say about your own experiences sounds like it could be a description of my first recording attempts!
Either way I still feel like a winner, I got something to put in the memory box and listen to again 6 months down the line.
That's what these things are all about - they push you to learn, throwing you into the deep end of the unknown and sometimes shark-infested waters. The good news is that next time you do it, you'll make less mistakes, work quicker, have to think less about the technology, be able to think more about the playing and also, in all likelihood get a better result.
I'm learning a helluva lot from these weekly challenges myself. I'm learning to throw down ideas quickly and efficiently as I have limited time to do them. I'm also learning to just play and get it done rather than obsess about the details (which has long been my big problem). From a playing perspective I'm being pushed into musical areas I don't usually go to and am having to learn how to squeeze the rather limited things I do into completely different contexts. It's all good and I'm becoming a better player because of it.
