last night i sat down and did something i haven't done for simply yonks. it was sparked by going to see 'how to train your dragon 2' with my son - for the second time - on saturday night. the girls went to see 'blended', and the li'l guy had less than no interest in going to see yet another sandler/barrymore fest. i'll admit, the kid has taste. i don't see it as a waste; the 'dragon' flicks are great.
long story short, i was really struck by the intricate simplicity of one of the songs, and decided to work it out on the piano. sorted, and i moved on to 'let it go' from 'frozen.'
i used to do a lot of this when i was younger and, without blowing my own trumpet too much, found that i fell back into it relatively easily. 'let it go' was a bit more of a challenge, and i'm still stuck here and there; might even go find the sheet music somewhere.
the difference between then and now, is that now having these songs pretty much sorted on the blacks and whites, i simply must get them under my ginger fingertips. ginger, coz i really haven't picked up a guitar in forever. but - and some of you might know this feeling - i felt a little corner of my soul start coming back to life when i made the decision to sit down and play. both in front of the piano, and with a guitar on my lap.
wish me luck, it's gonna be a journey
