Yep, Grammy Awards time again (the 51st).

In a couple of hours we'll see who the esteemed panel have chosen as this or that of the year. Yep, the same guys who have given Sheryl Crow nine (9) Grammys, and Neil Young zip, zulch, nada (0).

What's the matter here boys? No really, I am truly ignorant as to what is upsetting you okes. I dont follow the Grammy's/Oscars so I dont know how the nominations and awards are done.

Mostly the usual - one multi award winner that the industry wants to punt the hell out of (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss), which also fills the role of "music icons which we should have given awards to years ago, but never did" (Led Zeppelin has never won a Grammy either) - you'll notice no-one got a lifetime award this year (which is how they usually give the real musicians a nod).

Interestingly they finally give Zappa a Grammy (albeit obliquely via Dweezil) - I don't think they dared give him one while he was alive (I think they were afraid of the acceptance speech) - Best Rock Instrumental Performance: "Peaches En Regalia," Zappa Plays Zappa, Featuring Steve Vai & Napoleon Murphy Brock. And look, the industry can spell "featuring" in full! I was beginning to have my doubts.

In the "Sorry we ignored you while you were alive" category, we have George Carlin winning Best Comedy Record.

And for the "I don't know this stuff, so I'll vote for the only one I've heard of" category (which could actually describe 90% of the Grammys): Best Traditional World Music Album: Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu.

Oh well, at least the Grammy for Metal went to a metal band this year (Metallica).

Coldplay got he best rock album for that Satriani rip off . I mean, it's more cock rock than Rock but anyways, Metallica got the "Best Metal performance" for My Apocalypse. After I saw that I didn;t even bother checking the rest......

Do you think Coldplay are a rock band? Should John Meyer win best Rock Vocalist for "Gravity", isn't this Pop music, or maybe they should just reclassify and have a soft rock/ pop category.
They have 475 thousand other categories.
I see Coldplay won a POP category for the same song???

Tull didn't bother turning up to accept it either. Was for a pretty mellow album too (Crest of a Knave). That's when I stopped watching the grammys.

Some yers ago when Carl Raubenheimer was putting effort into promoting Corporal Punishment, he told me that music was the second largest industry after the internal combustion engine. (my memory amazes me!). I dont know if that was accurate and if so, if that is still the case today. Whatever; it is massive with big money being passed around. Big industries are controlled at all levels. There's bound to be a bit of engineering involved. So dont you think that these decisions have been taken a while back already? Maybe just after the last awards?
