Title made me think of this. The same piece of music played three times - the first time it's played, the second time it's sung, then finally danced with no music. Jump to 3:38 for the "danced" part.

Also interesting is that certain phrases are written with timing indication, but no note pitch - players choose the pitches.

Hell of a band too

Ah yeah - Probably everyone's favourite era of Zappa (although the '88 band are technically better musicians on the whole - they had to be, to reproduce the music written specifically for many different highly skilled players through the years). Zappa's first band that could play most of what he was writing. Also strongly individual players so he could write parts specifically for their unique capabilities and failings. He was obviously enjoying writing for them too.

Ruthy, Ruthy... I often wonder what kind of hell she put herself through just so she could play for Frank (20 recordings and countless gigs over 10 years apparently). A shy, retiring, female-type classical conservatory musician in one of the most notoriously outrageous bands ever (even for the time). Rollo Interior is still a mind-blowing piece of music for me - both in writing and performance.
