Hello All

So I was told that joining Guitar Forum was a good way to interact with the community and ask for advice and stuff when it comes to guitars and the like. So I did.

Not much to say about my experience with guitars, it is very limited, but I want to learn. I enjoy listening to Rock and Metal and would love to one day be able to play well enough to play some songs from a few of my favourite bands.

In terms of guitars that I own, I have an Epiphone Les Paul, a Fender Strat and a Tanglewood acoustic. I am looking for a high end guitar to buy in the immediate future, so any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

Welcome. I started off with a Epi Les Paul Special, and my musical tastes when I started (and to a large degree now) was the heavier stuff.

If you're looking at getting something on the higher-end of the scale with some mean metal muscle, have a look at Schecter guitars.

I've asked around for Schecter guitars, but all the music stores tell me that they cannot get any. Could you maybe recommend somewhere that I can contact to get me a Schecter guitar?

The local distributor for Schecter seems to have gone (they also used to do Dean guitars locally). So if you want a Schecter, you'd have to buy online from another country and pay shipping and duties to bring it in.

Still, Schecter aren't the only game in town. Ibanez, Fender, ESP, Jackson, PRS (to name just a few) - all have local distribution and wide ranges of models to suit all tastes and pockets.

Any idea of the type of guitar you're looking for? Who are your influences, etc.? You have a Strat and a Les Paul already - do you lean more to one than the other?

Thanks for the suggestions, and I really do like the Ibanez's and ESPs. Especially the S-series in the Ibanez and the Horizon NT series on the ESPs. I love the PRS custom 22 and 24, but I don't think I can afford them any time soon.

The kind of guitar that I want to buy is a super-strat - in that I love the shape of the strats, but I do want humbucking pickups. So I haven't really played my epiphone since I got my strat, so I definitely lean towards the strat.

In terms of influences, it is really broad: I like Metallica, Santana, RHCP, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin etc. I even listen to classical music.

I've always liked the Ibanez SA series myself (aside from the fairly slender neck - but that's true for most Ibanez guitars). The Timmons signature is also a very cool SUperStrat.
