A song and music video created within 3 days from starting

Just as the title states; the song itself and the music video was produced within three days from starting it. Furthermore I literally started from scratch, there was no plan or predetermined idea of what I wanted to do. The song itself took me about a day to complete (vocals were recorded in one take), another day was spent trying to figure out what sort of video suited the song (I wanted at least some sort of rudimentary story), and the last day was spent shooting and editing. Truth be told some clips that were used in the video were not shot for the video itself but at other occasions, however I think they were apt for the idea I tried to convey.

For anyone wondering 'why?' I am not a musician, in fact I am self-taught in every regard, so this is merely a hobby I am passionate about. Which means I fit the generic cliché. My predicament is, however, that I start multiple projects and tend to be short of time and will to complete them all. Especially when I do not finish songs immediately, or within a few days, I have an inclination to lose the 'feel' of the song and thus become rather alienated from the project. So a week ago I just decided to set myself a small goal of completing a song, and doing a basic music video for it.

Regardles of it being technically 'finished' I really yearn for some feedback. Criticisms or opinions or just simple comments/remarks would be greatly appreciated. I still actively, and with resolute mind, try to better my work and, thus, slowly inch myself nearer to the sound I wish to create.

Hi Etienne, I like your dedication and passion... visuals and music are also two of my inspirations. Obviously you're happy with it, and where you want to go after this depends on you. What I will add is my experience.

What gets me to extend my music more is (among other things) feeling the space that it fills. I know this is very obscure, but the environment you're in will alter and reflect the sounds you create. Just allowing yourself to hear that more will prevent it from becoming too introvert and repetitive.

Other than that, if you are into blending visuals and sound, a neat and fun experiment is to try copy the visuals in your music. (I know you did that, but I mean more the structure of the song). I started like that, and one of my compositions is a piece of music using three of my paintings to create the melody line and harmony. It gets you out of the predictable pattern and you end up surprising yourself, which is fun.

Truly interesting stuff. The thing is, since I am self-taught and cannot read or wrtie music, I tend to sculpt songs by using the relevant emotion I am experiencing at that particular time. That in itself poses the predicament of my works becoming repetitive and introverted. I understand what you are suggesting, but in practise I know I will struggle to fully accomplish it. I hardly get time to whole-heartedly finish a project and, like I said, if it takes too long to complete the track I tend to get alienated from it. Purely because my process of creating music involves my emotions, and if my emotional state changes too much I can't connect to the original project again. I am certain this sounds strange but it is the truth.

However the latter advice is definitely something I can try and I look forward to the endeavour; it does sound like loads of fun. Which is exactly what it should all be about. I do want to push my own boundaries and attempt things which have I have never tried. Anything really. And while I do experiment (in fact I view all my songs as experiments) I seldom exceed my expectations. So any change, or new endeavours, would be really sexy.

I don't think not reading or writing music should be a problem. I think what I'm getting at is exploring your emotion more.
