From their Facebook page ☹ , ..... so sad for existing and up'n coming bands , as well as their fans :'( Tanz Live June 16 Finally it's with great despair we have to announce that Tanz Live will be officially closing its doors this Sunday 8th June with immediate effect. Huge thank you to everyone for everything you've done over the past 11 years to make Tanz one of the best live music venues in South African history. Massive thank you to Music Connection, Prosound, all the SA bands and all the peeps that supported us from the beginning. Keep SA music rocking. Love Tanz

There goes another one.

We played a gig last week at Acoustic Cafe (full band) very nice new venue and they are taking up lots of rock bands now. Very nice venue, intimate, great sound. When one door closes a window opens.

acoustic café has folded once before, I hope it thrives now

Tanz was a great venue at the buzz centre but I suspect the rent got the better of them as it must of been huge....the move was a sign ....

live venues struggle because we don't support them...its that simple really

+1

True, but that is one of the things that suck about being in a band, you can't always support other bands because you are probably gigging your self. I wish we could save the music industry some how, but I think we are doing all we can, you can't convince anyone to suddenly like rock music, but we can always try convince those who do, to come out and support.

in this day an age there is to much competition for our time ..... gonna go off track here but the point remains....

when I started going to kyalami it used to be an awesome experience, something we looked forward to and planned weeks in advance...camp over at the track and enjoy the racing on the Saturday....it used to be filled to capacity...it was vibrant it thrived......now kylami has been in liquidation a number of times, if u go to the track you amongst hundreds of ppl whereas in the early days it was tens of thousands.....

same for live music.... when I first started going to venues, king of clubs, golden banana, dylans, the rocky street strip etc they were well supported,...there was not too much competiion for your time...now we have dstv, affordable cinema at every mall, relatively cheap reasaurants all over the place, the internet, gaming , 57 channels of shit on the tv , etc etc.... we are literally spoilt for choice ... live music is suffering for lack of support.....

huge +1 to what icecream man said ...

support for live music , also theatre and many other things including some sports events like provincial cricket) is dismal to say the least .... and if there's no support then venues will close doors cos it costs money to run venues ...

btw i know of another 2 live music venues who are up for sale ...and may close if things don't turn around
