Hi there fellow "Guitar Forumers" (?!)
I have a certain mic that I use for micing my amp. Now, this mic has rolled of my table and
does not work anymore. The cartridge is damaged and my attempt to fix it was unsuccessful!
It seems a waste to dump the mic in the dustbin because of this! I have explored various avenues
locally to try and obtain a replacement cartridge, but to no avail! My quest for a cartridge
made me contact the suppliers in Taiwan, where the replacement cartridge is available for 2$US, which is really
cheap! But shipping costs pushes the total price up so much, that the whole exercise is a senseless one,
as I can buy the same complete mic, new, :'( locally at less than this! Am now thinking of fitting any cardioid
cartridge if i can find one locally. Any suggestions where this can be obtained? Or any other thoughts
also welcome. :'(

Hi studmissile!
I tried answering you privately but my sending failed.
Thanks for the offer but I can get my broken mic,
(which worked perfectly for me), replaced, brand new,
at less than you are asking. Look I have a couple of other mic's
as well, it's just, the whole purpose of this exercise of mine, is not
to acquire an extra mic, but, to get this dead one alive again, that's all.

Unfortunately replacement cartridges tend to be the better ones used in the pro level gear (that's one of the reasons they are pro level). So yeah - always cheaper to replace the whole mic if it's an inexpensive one.
In the recording world, there's a trend to using cheap mics as shells for DIY - replacing the cartridge and circuit with higher quality components to get a good mic on the cheap. You could view your cheapie along similar lines, as an upgrade project.
What capsule do you have studly? PM I...
studmissile
Not a capsule, I think I have an older Shure C607 somewhere in my sound box.

That's the whole idea Alan. To replace the cartridge with another, not necessarily
the original, if the originals aren't available locally, as I've already established. ?
