Paramore - Misery Business

Was playing around earlier trying mostly to get that explosive "David Bendeth/Chris Lord-Alge" pop rock drum sound and decided to try the whole thing using fakery.

The drums and bass are taken from the guitar pro file and tweaked a bit then run through vsti's and the guitars are straight into Guitar Rig, the only thing original is the vocal taken from the multitracks floating around on the net.

I spliced in the original which kicks in and out between my version:

The mix is a bit all over the place so I'm going to play around a bit more with it, but for now let me know what you think/how it sounds:

Insofar as the drums are concerned, they sound spot on to the original. I can tell a definite difference between guitar tone, and the overall mix does sound different, but I get it that the drums was the focus. Sounds great to me.

Care to share your mixing process and the plugins used?

You weren't by any chance using the Slate Chris Lord-Alge/David Bendeth expansions were you? ?

The drums are a combo of Superior and Slate 3.5, just mixing and matching to find the right type of sound and then nothing out of the ordinary, just the usual eq and compression etc.

I'll work on it more and see how close I can get it to the original (that wasn't my initial intention but it might be good practice) and then repost it up.

I've been half/half about the new Slate and whether it's worth it or not, but that CLA expansion does sound good, not so much the Bendeth one though.

I find Slate 4 Platinum is enough for me, to spend an extra $99 on each expansion is kinda unnecessary as there are plenty kits to choose from as it is.

From the Slate 4 demo's up on the site it didn't really sound too much different than 3.5 (with some tweaking you could pretty much match most of the kits, a few of the kits did sound better though.....not so "Slatey")

Slate 4 does include most of the 'classic kits' from 3.5 (e.g. Old Zep Kit, Cracky Metal and all of those).

The major benefit in 4 is having the unprocessed kits. Cymbals and overheads are much improved between 3.5 and 4 imo.

There are a ton of free multi-sampled drum samples out there now as well which sound good.

Does it come with ilok or do you have to get it separate, I'm really thinking about it now especially for the CLA expansion?

There's no ilok.

After purchase you log in to a website that keeps track of your purchases, you download everything there and then download a digital license that you copy to the install directory. It was very simple.

I've been very happy with the product. It's easy to integrate into your DAW and set up a multi-track session.
