I am looking for someone in the cape town northern suburbs who can fix a broken ethercon adapter on a line 6 variax guitar
AlanRatcliffe
Is it the usual - a normal cat5 connector stuck in the Ethercon socket? Or has the socket actually broken?
Try Mike Du Toit - he's in Bergvliet (021 715 3869) and the only guy I know with comprehensive enough knowledge of guitars and electronics. There might be others, but most of the good luthiers are a bit iffy when it comes to the wiring on a normal electric guitar, let alone a Variax.
Also speak to Gareth, the tech at Marshall Music CT - they were the agents for the Variax and I know he owned one as I worked on it once. If he can't help, he might be able to steer you to someone who can.
Otherwise, If you don't come right, PM me and I'll make a plan to look at it.

Hi Spyker/Alan
If it's a Line 6 specific spare and not just the connector socket you may have some fun trying to get the spare from Line 6 SA.
They have just changed hands from Active in JHB as the company has just recently taken over by Yamaha/Global SA.
There's usually a dry spell between brand distributors changing to get proprietory spares ... and Active's backup with Line 6 was dismal at best ...
I would suggest a quick Google/E Bay search for Line 6 spares - often quicker these days to order things like that direct

I did some research? Problem is the RJ-45 jack on the guitar broke. The replacement part is Nutrik NE8FAV. I then just have to get a qualified person to unsolder the jack from the line6 pcb and solder the new one on. I will report back as soon as I had it done this week.

Order the rj 45 jack (neutrik ne8fav) from www.rscomponents.co.za. Was sent ne8fav-yk with krone pcb. Paid someone r30 to unsolder both pcb's and resolder new jack on line 6 pcb. Problem fixed ? just make sure that you get the jack with verticle pins and not horizontal pins.
