Another reason why old bands reform...

Bob-Dubery

Do you know why the Eagles said they’d reunite when 'hell freezes over,' but they did it anyway and keep touring? It’s not because they were paid a fortune. It’s not about the money. It’s because they’re bored. I’m not bored.

So spake Robert Plant recently (see http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/20/jimmy-page-robert-plants-reunite-led-zeppelin).

It's a most interesting quote. When I saw the Police getting back together I cynically concluded that either Summers or Copeland was broke (clearly Sting didn't need the income) and I found myself wondering how the heck that happened. Boredom hadn't occurred to me. Some of these guys who achieve massive success relatively early on must find retirement a pretty long and tedious process if they can't find some way to get the creative juices flowing.

Which, of course, is where Plant is coming from. His solo career kicked off almost as soon as Zep called it quits. It's been successful, especially in the last few years when he has toured with great bands behind him, has seen his sales increase, has received loads of critical acclaim and even got a grammy that had nothing to do with Zep.

Probably just tired of singing "Stairway to Heaven"

AFAIK he's never sung it at any of his solo shows. IIRC he received a threatening message early on about how there was a sniper's bullet with his name on it if he tried to sing "Stairway" in concert.

Other than that he's not shied away from Zep material, including songs older than "Stairway", but he does try to put new spins on it all the time.

Personally, I find the Eagles up the world's boredom quota more when they are playing together than not. Aside from that one song, it's all too "easy listening" and countrified for my tastes.

The tartan trousered rock 'n' rollers! Lawks, I hope not...

...and Slade? ?

They're touring in the UK at present - I've seen the posters. Billed as "Les McKeown's Bay City Rollers" which suggests that
a) there are legal constraints around the use of the BRC name and brand.
b) it's not a full "classic" line up.

All sorts of bands that I haven't heard of for years are touring there. I remember seeing posters for the Ventures and the Fourmost. Two different bands both billed as "UB40" are touring.

The original Rollers made a fortune on paper but most of it ended up with the management, and so they probably do need the income and will try to cash in on the nostalgia market.

Slade is amazing. "Cum on feel the noize!!!"

AlanRatcliffe

Yeah, I'd much rather have Nobby Holder and Slade with multiple Xmas specials than BCR.

is cloud involved?

Slade are still going but without Holder and Lea. So basically almost a tribute band.
Just can't be the same without Noddy. Dave Hill Guitar and Don Powell Drums are still there
