Classic Player 60 vs AM Standard Sound

Hello,

Do you think an AM Standard sounds better than a Classic Player 60?

If yes, could I make a CP60 sound as good as an AM ST just changing pickups and maybe something else ...?

I would think that the differences were mainly in feel? With one being the standard and the other being modelled after a 60's strat.

In my mind and on paper the CP60 would come off as the "better" guitar due to the use of the CS69 pickups as opposed to the AM Standard pickups on the standard.

It all comes down to preference anyway. You could probably get near the sound by swapping the CS69's for a set of am stds of ebay or something.

It surely can sound as good depending on pickups and amp and your personal preference, but the quality of the american standard should be substantially higher (however this isn't always the case). It should feel just a little more solid, a little bit smoother and stay in tune for longer.

My MIM strat with its stock tuners needs to be tuned after every 2 songs. My MIA stays in tune forever ?

That's because the nut on your MIA has been cut/filed/tweaked better than the nut on your MIM. ?

There's nothing wrong with the tuners on a MIM Strat.

There's nothing wrong with the tuners on a MIM Strat.

My MIA came with vintage style klusons while my MIM didn't. There's something wonderful about that design where you just put the string down the hole and it grips. ?

The fact is the cp is a 60's style as was pointed out. A very different beast to a std. Then as was said there's the better hardware (and woods selection) of the MIA. Current MIA std's come with Custom Shop Fat 50's pickups so the "better" pickups is a moot point. Fact is they're different things by design. There's also good reason why a MIA costs considerably more. If I soup up my city golf it still will never be a latest generation golf 7 no matter how fast it is.
