Hmmm, this post has cleared some things up for me. Man, I feel stupid :-[ I realize now what a thick neck is. The width of the fret board...of course! I could never figure out what the big deal was because of how I had interpreted it. I thought you all were speaking about how "chunky" is was, or shall I call it "depth" . Oh man, I'm going to have to reread quite a few posts LOL ?

Nope, my mistake, seems like thickness in other threads do refer to the "chunkiness" of the neck. Just ignore me ?

I bought this Ibanez. It has quite a narrow neck. I think that this means the nut is narrow. I find that when I play chords my fingers sometimes touch strings they are not meant to touch, with a whole variety of undesirable results. Actually I was thinking that if I could reproduce these results at will it may stand a chance in the industrial comp on the go. But random like you wont believe man! And scares the dogs sh&#less. Maybe if they have the next comp theme as Texas Chainsaw Massacre I could put sumfin together like this. Also I am having a bash at this fingerpicking thing and sometimes pick wrong strings. But not if I'm careful though. Anyhow, a few weeks back I was reading "Electric Guitar Handbook" by Alan Ratcliffe and speaks a bit about this. In that section there is another factor I think that comes into play viz. radius and action. But instead of directing people to a store to go and buy his book, he just tells them everything on this forum. Anyway, he is nice, I am not, so it doesnt make sense to me.

For me, I think I just need to work harder and stop looking for excuses.

Riaan C, tell your wife to play her own guitar (and noone else's). When you get to the stage that you paly together, which one will she play? Next thing she wants to use your golf clubs as well.

Funny thing is we are in a band (covers duo) together, so this issue is likely to arise in a public place! She's quite inpatient, so I reckon she'll want to strap on a guitar on stage as soon as she can play A, E and D (and probably with three second intervals between each), so I see, a bad moon rising!

Still on A,E, D -but she had some health issues a few days in. Spent a few days in hospital, but discharged now. She'll have to pick up again. She just had her blisters to work through when she had to stop. I was, however, quite impressed with the progress she made in the week or so she was going, so I reckon she'll get back up to speed quickly.
