No volume on position 5 of Strat pickup switch

Hi all,please advise : I have a Fender Squire Classic Vibe Strat. The pickup switch works fine in positions 1 to 4. As soon as I switch to position 5, the bridge pickup, there is no volume. If I touch the switch a few times the volume returns. Should I clean or replace the switch ? Thanks C

Those 5 way selectors aren't usually easy to fix/clean. It may need replacing. But, try clean it first? Sometimes if the contact is worn down, using an HB pencil to colour it in works. HB pencils have lead in them which is a conducer and helps the connectivity. If that doesn't work, time to replace it.

I hope by lead you mean graphite(which is a good conductor).

A quick spritz with some contact cleaner sometimes helps, but you are only delaying the inevitable. I usually say replace with a good US switch and have done with it.

Sounds like a bad solder joint, but failing rerunning the solder being the solution, definitely replace as Alan said. It would be the joint furthest from the position that's failing.

I replaced the switch in my CV Tele with a Fender switch ( it wasn't broken, I was gojg from three way to four way), and it was easy using a diagram from the net. The new switch is off much better quality than the one Squier installs, so I wouldn't hesitate to replace. From memory, the switch was less than R100 shipped on Ebay

Phew!!! Thank goodness I only have a three way switch ?
