. I can't figure out what's wrong and it sounds horrible

sounds like a setup issue.
heres a flyer at some possibles.. maybe post some pics too
Action may be too low on the treble side.
Pickups may be too close to the strings (if passive)
Are your frets worn at all?
Where do you live? the strange weather may have caused the neck to move a bit straightening from a relief position?

Wolf notes... a.k.a. Stratitis
Usually neck and/or middle pickups too close to the strings - especially with single coils. The pull of the magnets create artificial harmonic nodes in the string. More common on the thicker strings, but possible on the unwound strings. To confirm/fix, lower the pickups.
Can also be bad strings that are uneven - most likely if they are old, rusty and/or worn, but also happens with badly made new strings (and occasionally happens even with the best brands).

If you have trem springs it may also be worthwhile to check if they are vibrating. You can mute them with some foam.
...of course, disregard this post if you do not have a trem system. ?

guidothepimmp : pictures of what specifically? and I stay in the Eersteriver Area
Alan Ratcliffe : I googled wolf tone and it definitely sounds like that
Josh Hayes : I'll get some cotton tomorrow
It only happens on the high e and b strings which is a real annoyance when improvising
