It is with a warm fuzzy feeling inside that I present to you the March Challenge. Thanks to all that entered, you surely made it all the more enjoyably. This was a difficult challenge, one that got the better of me, so the fact that they had entered is an accomplishment in itself. Voting will close on Monday. Without delay, I present, the challengers: 1. doc-phil https://soundcloud.com/doc-phil-3/gfsa-march-2014-rocked-up This was quite a tough challenge! Here's my best effort. I spent a lot of time reading and trying to figure out the difference between boogie and shuffle, but if I have drifted into shuffle timing, please do forgive me! I tried to go for an off-kilter, carnival-type feel. I wanted to incorporate more brass and big band elements, but my composition skills with orchestral sounds is still very much in development. Instruments used: Drums, rhythm and lead guitars, bass Upright bass Orchestral elements (tuba, trumpets, trombone, french horn, violin, timpani) 2. PeteM https://app.box.com/s/xsilcu0jv8rsbjw3kmzr This is a redo of a number I did some years ago. Hope you accept it. (old forum) Poll Results: You have 1 vote to cast. doc-phil: 6 Mixerboy: 10 PeteM: 4

Effing excellent work manne!! Dang, I'm having a very hard time choosing my pick because I liked them all so much. Each one speaks to me in different ways....so much so I'd almost like to see a 3 way tie.

In the end.......well, just to say......Mixerboy's track is stellar writing but for me personally doesn't swing as well as PeteM's tune does, but while Pete's has a nice Gypsy feel almost and definitely steps away from a trad sound......it is not rock enough for my ear-according to the challenge itself. So my vote goes to Doc-Phil......... but only by a very narrow margin. This because he really brought the distorted sound into the swing, along with the upright bass and all.

Just to say....rocked out swing to my ear or interpretation was all about using rock instruments or vibe within the swing context.

But I swear....I fully enjoyed them all and was really impressed with the level of musicianship and compositional and recording/mixing skills shown by all 3 of you guys. Stellar work.

Doc-Phil and Mixerboy I totally see that music in film soundtracks. Doc-Phil, yours in a Tarantino or Rodriguez flick!

Mixerboy.....short as it was, I really dug the guitar solo!! Said a lot in a very short space of time. That is an art.

For sure! This is as it should be. Otherwise the voting can be skewed. This way one is more likely to vote according to the music and how it fits the category.

How about some suggestions, I was thinking something like "world" music where if you wanted to go chinese you could try some chinese style music and make your guitar sound "chinesey" or Indian and try get a sitar thing out of your guitar etc it's vague enough that anyone could give it a go I think, plus then you don't need drums et al so it evens the playing field a bit.
