Brazil or No Brazil??

Hi there,

So it´s been a while since a don´t post anything, and now with this new purchase would like to ask the wood experts from the forum if they can tell me if this is real Brazilian Rosewood.

I bought this strat neck from a guy in Ebay, and is a Warmoth strat neck, with vintage specs, a 3AAA Flame maple with Brazilian Rosewood(this wood he supplied to warmoth, due they don´t do brazilian rosewood anymore)

The price was okay, considering that Brazilian rosewood is very scarce and expensive, that is why now i kinda have a doubt if it´s real brazil.

Impossible to say for sure from a photo, but it sure looks like it - grain is consistent with the old growth stumpwood I've seen over the last few decades.

If it isn't Braz, it's likely to be Madagascar, which is just as good IMO.

When did all this sending a piece of Brazilian to Warmoth happen? If it was any time in the last couple of years and the wood crossed a border into the USA it's likely paperwork was involved. Circa 2008 I was gassing for a Lowden and that had a some Brazilian on it (bridge IIRC) and the store I was dealing with (which very considerately went belly up and saved me a good chunk of money) disclosed that and said they had the paper work and would take care of all the customs stuff for me (in this case that was probably not so much getting it into SA as getting it out of the EU zone) and give me the certification so that I could sell the guitar on in future if need be.

So where's the paperwork? The absence of that doesn't mean that it can't be Brazilian (and customs officials are more likely to go after corporates than individuals) but the presence of the paperwork would be as good as a guarantee.

Im Really looking forward to install it on my strat, which currently is in PE, will try definitly to record some before and after sound clips. But from now, i can definitly feel a difference in the wood from the neck that my strat has to this new one.

The other thing that the previous owner told me, is that he bought separetly that piece of Brazilian woodm and that itself cost him like 150 US dlls, and the neck was manufactured around 3 or 4 years ago.

Agree with Alan - it looks like Brazilian. I have some pieces of Madagascan - they look nothing like that.
