  • Looking for a specific guitar: Ibanez RGA 121

Hi Guys

Hopefully this is the correct place to put this, if not 1000 apologies and please move this to wherever it needs to go.

For years I have had serious GAS for one of these, especially the NTF version. Recently I've also been seriously GASing for a natural finish guitar of some kind and this is definitely my number one choice.

I know this is a long shot as very few of these are in our country but I thought, what the hell, let's try and maybe someone wants to sell or knows someone who wants to sell one. Or perhaps even some obscure little shop somewhere still has one hanging on the wall. ( this has happened to me before )

So yes, if you have one you wouldn't mind parting with or know someone who might, please let me know.

Thanks guys.

I recently got my hands on an RGA32 which is a natural finish... Cost me R3k with a hard case! Those are awesome guitars which may suit your needs and gas just as well!!
      Thanks man.

I was actually in Marshall Music this morning and they had that exact model in there.

It felt okay and everything, but what surprised me is that that particular guitar felt really light and very
"toy" like. I'm not trying to say it's bad or anything, but I didn't fall in love when I played it haha.

I'm also very much in the market for a prestige, so the RGA 121 kills 2 birds with one stone. I doubt I'll get one from this country, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestion though man. It's a pity Ibanez has discontinued the RGA line. ( apart from the Jake Bowen sig) I really do like archtops.
I had the same thing a while back where i was looking for a Jackson DKMGT, but eventually gave up... I know in Potch theres a music store which had a Ibanez S770PB which is quite pretty with a natural finish Poplar top and is also a prestige model. Ive seen the same guitar on a few websites for better prices...
Jackson DKMGT is a great axe. I've seen 1 or 2 pop up on Gumtree in JHB. They actually have a Jackson DKMG at Bothners in Plumstead, but yeah Floyd...

Oh yes I saw a pic or 2 of the s770 and s771 ( with the hardtail) Looks pretty nice, non prestige though. At sound select in Woodstock they have an RG470 AHZ which is a beautiful natural ash. But my OCD does NOT allow middle, single coil pickups... I hate them and just can't look past them haha. So it's ruined for me. I'm very picky.

I did have the notion of refinishing one of my Jackson SLSMG's, but it's quite pricey and the wood might turn out ugly underneath the finish, so no dice.

I agree completely with not liking the middle single coils in some shredders... They just feel out of place ?
And I too avoid the Floyd...
I know 3 people who own RGAs, one is an RGA321FM, none of them would ever so much as consider selling them cause they're awesome, way back in the day I almost snagged the RG321FM cause I could get it new for like R7k when this other person beat me to it...

In short you are chasing a unicorn ?
Haha trust me I know... But it's worth at least a try. Who knows though, someone might get bored of it and wanna trade/ sell it and if so hopefully they come straight to me lol.

I might just have to bring one in from the states somehow. I know they are quite abundant over there. Especially on the sevenstring.org forum.

There is an RGA 321fm in the blue at a store in Fishhoek but they are asking R22 500... which is not going to happen.

Sigh... Perhaps the RG721? You guys seen it? Looks really stunning. Not sure of the quality though. I've heard good and bad stories about the premiums.
Shot, I saw that one. Those things are INSANELY heavy though. I played one once and it felt like a les paul, maybe even a bit heavier. That's a huge downer for me. Coming from a jackson slsmg which is super light.
