Hey guys: here is a new song from my New(ish) band: OhGod!
We are a four piece instrumental proggy/post rock band based in CT
This is the latest demo track: Alter of Apollo
I recorded and mixed the whole thing, the guitars n bass n mix were done at home in my bedroom studio and the drums were recorded elsewhere on an electronic kit and mapped to Superior Drummer
Hope you enjoy it. I have yet to hear it on anything else besides my monitors, so please let me know how the mix sounds on your systems
?

very smashing indeed. listened to it on my crappy laptop speakers, plugged in my crappy headphones, sounded very crisp n clean through both. tracks like this can get muddy, quickly, but your mix is very clear, at least to my ears, well done on that front.
the track moves along nicely too, it's an easy listen - and this is not my genre at all. other than to say i like it, i'm not gonna comment any further, because i'm no expert, and this is not in my comfort zone. it's really nicely done
good one!

I thought the double bass at +-2:00 was a little unnecessary, there are definitely "tighter" ways to get the hasty feel I think you were going for e.g. select triplets would give some breathing room.
It had a combined sound of Explosions in the Sky and God is an Astronaut (the slightly heavier sections).

Very nice. Good one.

Good stuff
Works well - the quiter part in the middle, just knowing that you are going to end BIG.
Prog Rock at it's best. No vocalist to ruin everything ?
DrGonzo
21 Fretter - Yeah man i agree with you - but i'm sure you know drummers - telling them to do "less" is met with completely blank stare and confusion. they don't quite understand this. well especially our drummer... I do not think it is possible for us to have one song where there is not at least one brutal double bass section, he just loves that shit too much - so i got to deal with it!
Glad you guys digged it so far, and thanks for the feedback. ?

I hope you take this as the compliment it's intended to be: What a pretty song!
This is something I could listen to over and over. Would love to hear more from you guys.
Gotta agree with the comment on the double-bass - it almost gave me heart palpitations ?
The rest was just sweet and on-target and "fit" perfectly in the context of the rest of the song.
The final part of the song is awesome (I love it) but I'd also have loved to hear the song end right at 3:22. It would give you that sort of unresolved, "but I want more" feeling. IMHO of course ?

Me likee!
Personally, (even as a drummer of sorts) I think most modern drummers should have their double-kick pedals confiscated. No, dickhead, you're not making it heavier with a constant barrage of 16th/32nd kick strokes, you're just making it more monotonous.

I like it, great mood and feel in the song. I personally try and create an atmosphere with the recordings I attempt, to me an appropriate mood is more important than a technical masterpiece, and I think that you got it spot on.
DrGonzo
Drummers hey. :? >☹ have any of you ever met a drummer that remains quiet in between 2 songs at practise... whilst you trying to have a very important conversation about arrangement and etc.
Gonna start bringing a bag of hard objects to throw. ? ?
@ Jacques
thanks man, tried to add as much reverb without it washing away to give it the right spacey mood, glad i didnt go too overboard, although it is borderline
@Norio - dude pretty was exactly what we were going for.... of course we have to totally destroy the prettiness with some heavy ass riffage... lifes all about balance ya know ?

Very cool! GOod job!
LooneyAtTheGate
Excellent track! Been following you guys, dig your stuff.
I actually like hectic double bass peddalling, but you have a definite 'post rock' sounding kick there which doesn't work so well in quick succession.. too much 'trail'?
Otherwise the mix and production is perfect! Great song structure.
DrGonzo
hmmm ja I wonder if I should just change the sample or perhaps EQ/ gate the drums or something to help make it sound smoother!
but yeah thanks Julian.
Also been listening to your stuff on soundcloud, got some mean sounding riffage there man!
LooneyAtTheGate
Aw shucks thanks dude! ?
DrGonzo
Hey Julian and the other CT members here, we gonna play on wednesday eve at mercury, on at 10.30 or 11 I think.
So pull through and do a live review ? would be cool to meet you guys
LooneyAtTheGate

Oh God?
Listening to the sound cloud now, but if my memory serves, were you guys not the instrumental band who played with Poverty of ideals and facing the Gallows at mercury a few weeks ago?
If so, that was a really cool show.
Shibbibilybob
and if not, it was still a cool show.
listening to this track I am almost certain I have the correct band in mind...
Did you dudes not live in Jozi before? one of the Jozi dudes was telling me summin like that at that show
