What would happen if you matched a 1 Mohm pickup to a 20Mohm preamp, and is there anyway to match them?
Bit of a dumb dumb with electronics...

Without getting into details: for audio electronics, you want your input impedance to be bigger than your output impedance - ideally by a factor of 10 or greater.
So a 1 MOhm source into a 10 MOhm input is perfect.
