Good idea thanks choc. And yeah its for my bass. Alan sent me the pickups and I wanna replace all the electronics one shot. I got a price list from Terry d and it's all very reasonable.
Is there a difference between volume and tone pots?

The pots themselves can be the same, or they can be different. Volume pots can be either linear of audio taper, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Manufacturers are probably split pretty even here, leaning toward more US guitars using audio (Gibson being a notable exception), and most imports using linear. Tone pots on the other hand pretty much have to be audio, as a linear pot results in what is basically an on/off tone control at around 1.
