Pukeburst Antigua came about because CBS needed to hide construction flaws in their Coronado guitars. A few years later they expanded the colour to the whole range (even acoustics and violins). No-one knows why. ? Or why they reissued the Strats later.
Sunburst was just an attempt to copy an aged violins French polish finish and Gibson were doing it long before fender. Two colour sunbursts were accidents and were originally normal three colour ones - Fender's red dyes at one point weren't colour fast, so over time the red faded, leaving only the yellow to black.
