Infamous Advertising

I don't want to be that guy, but I must say something about this new pop up advertising. Firstly, I'd just like to say I don't have an issue with the adverts that feature on the sides/banners/in the forum, but recently I saw that everytime I go to this site, a new window opens up in my browser with an advert. I am not such a big fan of that now. Its much more intrusive than the other adverts and I'm just not sure if its necessary. Of course, I always respect the ways of the forum, but I thought I should point this out.

Yea, my pop ups still occur on a very frequent basis. Annoys the jeepers outta me, I'm going to follow this link Norio posted

PS: If you guys post screenies here, I may be able to give more specific advice. When in doubt, post screenies.

Just had a video start up automatically in one of the ads (the ad after the first post on a page) First time this has happened. I initially went through all the open tabs trying to figure out where it was coming from. Is this something that could happen more often? Ad was a "onerandman" Sanlam thing

Yeah... the videos are starting to be "autoplay" everywhere now. Facebook started that nonsense a while back too.

Here's something nifty...

The latest version of Chrome shows a little "speaker" icon on tabs that are making sounds. Makes it SO much easier to find the offending tab.

Read more about it here:

I don't know if this effects anybody else, but ads are not showing on GFSA for me even with this domain specifically excluded from AdBlock... not sure what to do about that.

NorioDS

Thanks for that, doc-phil.

The likely cause is a lower resolution. So if you mostly use a low-resolution, you'll see almost no ads. This is on-purpose as it was just easier for me to do that, at the time, than to try and make the ads mobile-responsive.

If you send me a screenie, I can try see what the problem is.

Once again, thanks for this. It's not often we get people asking to see the ads ?

By lower resolution do you mean the resolution of my actual monitors? I'm running 2, one at 1680 x 1050 and the other at 1920 x 1080, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I don't generally care for ads, but if they are unobtrusive and guitar related, then they may actually be an ad that could lead me to something useful. Plus if I can support GFSA in some small way I should since I get so much out of it.

Here's a screenshot:

You'll will note that the green thumbs up icon in the top right is AdBlock showing that ads are allowed on this domain.

While typing this I realised I am also running the Chrome extension 'Do Not Track Me'. I see ShareThis, Google AdSense, BuySellAds and Doubleclick are blocked... there's the problem ?

Hehehe, glad you figured it out!
