Hi from Wizard ...

Sorry it's taken so long to introduce myself - took a while to figure out how to do this. I'm older than most - am sure there are members 1/3 of my age. Music is very important in my life. Played violin, air guitar, iPod and various African instruments. A month ago took the plunge to upgrade the air guitar to real guitar. Have been seriously impressed with the openness of experienced players to welcome and assist new members. Many thanks to Alan for advice. Many thanks to Matt at Bothners for hooking me up with my 1st guitar. Music taste? Random search of my iPod includes Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Bob Marley, Heifetz, Yo-Yo Ma, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, Uriah Heep, Dilana, Doors, Eric Clapton, Deep Purple, Nirvana, Police, Robbie Wessels, Santa Esmeralda, Segovia, ... i.e. I like lots of different stuff. No Avril Lavigne. Music is music. The first LP I ever bought was Demons & Wizards by Uriah Heep. Hence my nickname. An early goal is to be able to play the intro to the song "The Wizard" Have managed to work out bits of "Sunshine of my Love" (Cream) and "Black Night" (Deep Purple). Am intimidated by my lack / absence of skills and the unbelievable artistry I have already seen here; but am excited to be in your company. And want to learn ... very, very badly.

@ Wizard Dangerous territory, I was at Florida Park High and there was a couple of wars between our schools in the late 70's ?
I remember a rugby match (Florida was useless at sport) where it was a free for all and it involved the parents as well.

Hi Wizard. We speak the same language and we're probly the same age, only I don't dig air guitar.
I've previously used Sunshine Of Your Love as a means to get the band to work together. Drummer can do his own thing long as he keeps time. Lead guitarist can do his own lead break as long as he plays it in D (I had the complete lead solo printed out though). The bass guitar (me) really battled to play and sing simultaneously. The Wizard is a D to C G turnaround but the guitar is detuned a full tone so the song is in C. I'll gladly jam with and advise you sometime. 8)

Just discovered a whole new role for good music.

I work in a massive corporate and have just been moved out of a huge, plush office with the view of the mountain and Robben Island into a desk the size of an ashtray with Jack and Jill and all their friends within arms length.

All in the name of cost savings and increased productivity.
Right.

But right now "Child in Time" through headphones is doing a marvellous job of lifting my spirits and drowning out Kathy's argument with her builder.

My message was clear from Uriah Heep's - A Year Or A Day
and seeing them do it at the Tree Arts had me in goosebumps. :'(
