I know this topic has been on the forum a few times. As every good fan of music in the early 70's, I had a copy of Woodstock and this was my favourite track...

Songs/ Riffs that inspired you to Play Guitar....

Don't laugh at this, but for me it was the guitar parts in Billy Ocean's "Loverboy" from 1985 and the crunchy riffs from "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins in 1986. Top Gun is still one of my all-time favourite movies and Ray-Ban Aviators have never gone out of fashion.

Was actually playing a few AC/DC riffs tonight and I remember when I was first starting out how rockstar it felt to be able to play 'Back in Black' and 'Highway to Hell' after only a few months of playing 8) Honestly AC/DC made those simple major chords sound so epic!

Also the Arctic Monkey's - 'I bet you look good on the dancefloor' is up there with one of the songs that got me hooked

What made me want to play was JUDAS PRIEST - THE HELLION (the intro to Electric Eye)... it sounded soooo MEAN back then. I think I wore out my copy of Screaming For Vengeance. \m/

I started playing at 8, exclusively Neil Diamond, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles, etc. on an acoustic.

THEN: One night in 1979 I got triple whammied by a cousin who came up from his first job as an appy at the mines in Welkom to spend his newly earned cash in the bright lights of Johannesburg.
The oke was visiting a common uncle who had an old radiogram in one of the bedrooms and that's where my life changed forever on a plot outside Kempton Park..

This is what he played:-

Mind blown, and a lot of money spent on guitars and amps and it's not over yet..

AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!! ? Nooooooooooo, not that!!!! ?

I remember in the mid 70's at school, that every guy who walked into your cubicle at boarding school (myself included ☹, ) had to play that riff on the top two bass strings!!! I have resisted playing that song ever since and can honestly (sadly?) say that I have never played it as a cover with any band. A great number none the less.

I know it's kind if cheesy. But who went beyond the riff to work out the whole song?
Blackmore does a great solo in the song!
