Giant of the American folk rival, collaborator with Woody Guthrie, early backer of Dylan, thorn in the side of the censors, reviver of songs such as "We Shall Overcome" and "Goodnight Irene", ethnomusicologist, composer of (amongst others) "Turn, Turn, Turn" and "If I Had a Hammer".
Passed away yesterday of natural causes, aged 94.
