I've managed to split the maple. 8). Happy & relieved. I t was over before it began. I gave it a light thicknessing. Thats not too important because this surface is the one that will be shaped once on the mahogany body.
I'll pick up that in the week / next weekend.
My next thing - the necks. I started building the profile jigs a while back. I put them together & have just finished profile sanding.
These are the jigs, the top one has adjustable supports to cater for variance in the band saw cutting. It does the underside profile with the Robosander. The next does the fingerboard side profile:
Robosander in the drill press, the fruit juice bottle at top hooks up to the vacuum cleaner. The thicknesses come out a litt more than .5mm too big just right for later finishing.
The finished necks were given a few passes over the planer table to narrow them. This is on the side surfaces - not the profiled surfaces. There's no taper here that will be done after the truss is fitted. I haven't sanded the butt - that needs to be 38.1 mm / 1.5". I am waiting for a drillpress roto-plane in the post & will do that when it arrives.
I have a spare neck (not shown) - I miscut it. It was my tester here & I'll use it the same way for the other steps.
