nice vid. i make a habit of using that 'one post back' trick, but i've never trimmed the string before stringing, nor have i put all six strings in at the bridge at the same time. will try tonight - which brings me to my last point. great timing, i have to restring tonight!

do wish i had one of those automatic string winders though, wonder how easily come by they are...

I usually clean and restring my guitar while watching a movie or something... lol

ed zachary. plus he was narrating it, which probably adds a good minute or so. i think the auto winder thingy makes a world of difference. i remember seeing one of andy mcgibbon's techs using one forever ago and thinking to myself back then i gots to gets me one of those. i have a hand winder (jim dunlop i think) that does the same thing, but it won't work as quickly. i'm gonna phone around until i find one.

It really shouldn't take much longer than that. Thanks to locking tuners and plenty of practice, I've got that down to four or five minutes (excluding cleaning) with a regular peg winder.

Hmm. My Dunlop has an offset head which wouldn't marry well with your average, common or DIY powered screwdriver. Unless I'm missing something? Or there's another type of Dunlop I should be looking out for? But that's precisely what someone else said to me a while ago, so it's quite possible I'm just being dof.

The Dunlop Turbo Tune is the one:

...but it looks like they've discontinued that one. ☹

Then again, a normal pegwinder is more than fast and easy enough. I've always thought the electric ones would be a necessity only if stringing and tuning was all you did every day and you needed to avoid RSI.

well will ya look at that. pity. thanks alan, mine of (useful!) info as always. i shall continue as i am for now, but have dropped the appropriate birthday hints. seems a reasonably inexpensive piece of kit for the convenience of it.
