Manfred-Klose This looks like the ultimate must have camping tool for a guitarist, has anyone played on one before? What does ot sound like? http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/choosing/guitars.php?p=m&m=Steel%20String%20Backpacker%20Guitar

Wider than the Martin, but I should think it's shorter too. And you'll have a better chance of finding one in shop hear so that you can try before you buy.
Squonk @ Bob Can it fit in a Daihatsu Sirion with 2 large suitcases? Joke , we are upgrading to something bigger this year!
Explorerlover Fooled around on one once. Not bad and I wouldn't mind one,but the R 5k pricetag put me off.
AlanRatcliffe Bothner's Plumstead had both the Martin and the baby Taylor last time I looked. Both surprisingly nice, and with a pickup, the Martin makes a great stage acoustic (I see Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has been using one on stage for the last few years).
Keira-WitherKay mmm i have again heard horrid reports on the martin .... by reading reviews... since i was also attracted to them i travel a lot too..... and i see they do make a nylon... Marshall music in woodmead jhb can order them....(+/-R5000) and Marshall music also have a baby taylor in stock ....which i actually played today ...and the baby taylor just did not work for my fingerstyle playing it sounded thin and tinny even the salesmen agreed ... but i play with my fingers.... maybe with a pick it somehow fattens out.... but on what i heard today i'd never shell money for the Taylor ...but "one man or woman in this case meat is another's poison" if you like travel guitars ...a company called traveller make awesome guitars but they need to be amplified.... i have played on them in europe and they have beautiful tone and clever designs to minimise space while keeping a standard scale .... the taylor on the other hand is only fine if you have hands like a 12 year old ....a rich mans toy.... also washburn make a cheap travel guitar called a rover ........ again mixed reports but for the money $140 it's a give away and thats the marked price with friendly discount you'd prob get one sub R1000 and suprisingly they feature solid spruce tops and shrunk bodies but full scale necks....and come with a case that fits in an aircraft overhead compartment.... still to hear one though ... peace and light Keira
