Blackmore was the one of the first guitarists I actually listened to. Not that I knew about or I'd heard a record with that person playing, but whose parts I separated out and LISTENED to.

Haven't listened to him for years now, and I was never much of a Deep Purple fan.

I saw and bought the latest Deep Purple DVD "Perfect Strangers" from Musica the other day.
Released in Oct 2013 its their 1984 MK 11 reunion show Filmed in Melbourne , ft. Blackmore.

Blackmores' playing on this dvd was imo : Mostly horrible, horrible , with a fair amount of : horrible, horrible, horrible ! !
BOO ! ...... did I mention HORRIBLE ! >☹ YMMV / IMO etc.........

The rest of the band were brilliant !

Sheesh. That criticism coming from a die hard Blackmore fan is quite heavy! I do appreciate your feelings and deduce that it must have been an uncharacteristically bad performance from the man on the night, might it have been as a result of one of his famous moods that he deliberately fobbed it? Just wondering.
