I don't know how old he is actually but that piece at 8:20 is at UNISA and university of Pretoria's licentiate level. So that is after grade 8. Adults usually choose that piece for international competitions.

Indeed, that is a gross understatement. In fact I doubt I have the words. Thanks, it's a really beautiful piece, (although I could have done without a few of the variations...)

did a bit of googling. don't know if this is the same festival, but he won joint-first prize at the 'International Competition for Young Guitarists' 2012 in the under-14 category. so that gives us a more-or-less idea of how old he was then (i.e. younger that 14, mid-2012).

i also love that little smile - it's a little bit of acknowledgement, a little bit of gratitude, a little bit of 'phew, can't believe i did that', don't you think? so, still a kid, but a very dedicated and clearly talented kid.
