New Toy Day... ?
This is something I've been after for a while (but always seems to get bumped down the wishlist by things like guitars, amps and effects). We don't watch any TV (in fact our "TV" is just a screen), but do like watching at a film or show occasionally. All along I've been copying stuff off PC onto flash, plug into DVD player (which also only plays AVIs) to watch, which was getting a bit tiresome.
Takealot had a special on Mede8ers last week, so I finally took the plunge and got a 500X2, a wireless dongle and a 2TB drive:
Nice and compact, can play just about any video, audio and picture format (including MKV, APE and other exotic formats), sits on the network like a storage device and can also tune in to hundreds of Internet radio stations. Lots of connectivity - HDMI, coax, optical, host and slave USB, wired or wireless network - even has a card reader. Best thing is it's software updateable. Only thing it can't do (at the moment) is play YouTube videos on the YouTube site (you have to download them first).
