Stripping paint...

So what does one do when all conventional paint strippers fail??

I did a forum search and both suggestions of paint stripper and heat guns won't work... the stripper didn't do a thing and the heat gun scorched the wood underneath before it did anything to the paint.... This adamantium paint that squier uses is impenetrable.... I think it's polyester... Would acetone work on it? or will I be forced to sand it all off manually???? ☹

You might try opening a chip and 'peeling' the paint with a scraper. Or is it bonded to the wood too much for that?

Also - not sure if it's the "Stripping" part of your header or what, but all the ads I see is of a certain....type. I can pick and choose between Senior Afrikaans Dating, Pretty Ukraine Ladies, Delicious Asian woman, Russian Singles or just Browse for 1000's of Local Singles ?

Yeah I did ? Heat gun and then sanding... So i guess for me it would just be sanding...

Well i put the top and bottom through the planer and what i found was 2 layers of paint and a 3rd thick glue like undercoat which held it all together. It's bonded to the wood extremely well...

haha but my ads are for the university of liverpool?? Maybe stripping to pay for college is part of their ad system?? ?

Then sanding might be the only way to go - and man that sucks. >☹ Getting all the paint out of the cutaways at the neck has to be done by hand because the sander won't fit and I just HATE that. Best way I found was to wrap the sanding paper around an old cricket wicket and going to work on it.

Aaaand now I see I can click to sign up to meet Single Vegetarians as well. ?

Well I took the body to the sander and got most of it of... This paint is so thick! ? why would anyone do that??? now the only problem is that the body is about 2mm smaller than a regular tele all the way around >☹

And I didn't know that eating preference was a dating criteria :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Sanding is the best option especially if you planing on repainting it.

The Asian guitars use thick poly paint asit's easier to flatten a hard layer of finish than prep the wood body properly and thickness doesn't slow down curing with a polyester. You'll probably notice it gets a whole lot fuller/warmer in tone than before, BTW.

You sanded it off quickly! Did you use a thickness sander or drum sander or something? By hand usually takes days.

3 in 1 spindle, belt and disk sander ? the top was already done when I put it through the thicknesser planer and the sides went super fast on the belt sander then got it to 90 degrees on the disk part and god the tight corners on the spindle ?

As for getting warmer, it's more a fact of I can HEAR the tap for once ? it's actually quite a resonant body! I think that with the walnut cap it will make a nice guitar ?
