StormBeast
Hey guys
I need some advice on some modding I'm thinking of having done on my Ibanez RG1570
It currently has the stock pick ups, V7, S1, V8 in, they sound ok, but lack sustain, especially on long bends, also I find presence and gain is also lacking. So I'm thinking of putting in 2 new humbuckers, neck and bridge. I'm thinking of EMG 81's, but I'm not sure about the whole active versus passive thing? Anyone out there care to help me out a bit? Do they play as good as they sound and can they work in my guitar?
Thanks

Here are some rought guidelines : they are not neccesarily the only pickup for the job, just what certain bands use :
If you dig Killswitch Engage tone : EMG 81/ 85
Metallica : EMG 81/ 85 /89
Megadeth : Seymour Duncan Active's (livewires)
Static X tone : Seymour Duncan Distortion / Dimarzio SuperDistortion
Incubus/ Tool tone : Seymour Duncan 59 / JB
Humbucker tone : S-D Pearly Gates
Steve Vai / DragonForce : Dimarzio Evo's
Joe Satriani : Dimarzio FRED
John Petrucci : Dimarzio Air Norton / D Sonic
Just a few ideas
On your guitar you should have space for 2 humbuckers (neck and bridge)
So I would recommend getting any Medium to High Output Humbuckers on there :

Any Yes! , replacing stock pickups (especially Ibanez stock p/ups) make a huge difference
