My first recordings

Good Day

Two covers recorded using Lexicon Lamda interface, Mixcraft software (Cubase sucks!), A foot drum, Fender and Suzuki acoustic.

This is my first attempt to recording so enjoy, cringe, cry and hurl :-[

By the way, I must ask what happened with the stereo mix. All the volume seemed to come from the left side, with the reverb on the right. I thought my speakers where bust haha.

Thanks for the feedback.
The recording bit is a steep learning curve. Nothing wrong with your speakers but with my setup. In order to record all at once I had to use the guitars on mono inputs on the mini desk to make space for the two mikes on the main inputs. The signal is then sent to the Lexicon interface and recorded using Mix Craft.
I added some effects as the room that I record in is fairly "Dead"

Not bad at all for a first recording. Always great to hear a two-part vocal harmony. :goodtimes:

The "everything left/reverb right" was also the first thing that struck me. Think of it as balancing the "weights" of each element to the left and right of the stereo spectrum. So in The Rose, try pan guitar to the middle, voices about 25% to either side and pan their reverbs to the far opposite sides (so the reverb for the voice at 25L will be at 100R). Similar for Night Train - but guitar to one side and voice to the other.

Another reverb trick to be aware of is close your eyes and visualise where each instrument is in a room - the instruments are spread out on a stage before you and the reverb is coming off the side walls. If you have short reflections, they come from behind the player's positions (from the walls closest to them, but the longer ones come from the walls furthest from them (also from the rear behind you, but that takes a bit of doing ?). A good stereo reverb algorithm can do all the math for you, but just thinking where the long reflections are coming from and panning accordingly gets you 90% of the way there.

Ah. The Lexi limits you to recording two tracks at a time? Try record one guitar, one voice and pan them hard right and left at the desk, so each goes to a separate input on the Lambda and each is recorded in mono to it's own separate track. Then play back your recording through phones while you record the second voice on a third track. Same for second guitar. That way you end up with three or four mono tracks that you then mix to stereo, adding reverb or other effects to taste (and the nice thing is you can then apply effects or EQ to each track separately and differently if required).
