My Strat is a 22.1mm - 23.8mm soft V. So it starts kind of where the Satriani stops ?
That is pretty crazy big ?
I'm not sure of the exact neck size, but during my time working in the industy I got to try out 2 custom shop '52 relic teles and they were of course amazing, but also had pretty hefty necks, and I got to give a whirl on the Richie Kotzen tele which also has an absolutely enormous neck, and they were all just monster guitars. It really drove home the point to me that despite maybe not being my ideal preferences it's very interesting to pick up a guitar that is somewhat out of the norm of what you'd play and just enjoy the results of where it pushes you to go ?
Also one of the things I must tip my hat off to Ibanez about regarding my 8 string in comparison to a neck size like yours is it's tuning stability, I mean despite having two extra strings to deal with at a relatively thin size it is pretty amazingly stable tuning wise (no doubt yours is too), which is no doubt a side effect of the 5 piece construction and titanium reinforcement in the neck, but I still just think they really knocked it out of the park with the RG2228. This is probably why despite the fact that it came out in 2007 and now has many competitors by other brands it still just seems to be the industry standard when it comes to 8 strings ?
Also as you've always said the neck fat is a big contributor to tone, and I really do find that the 7s and 8 I have just have that extra bit of oomph to their sound, so much so that I really didn't have any problems selling off my 6 string cause I knew what I was being left with just seemed superior to me ?
