I am not sure if the guitar built by Brian May and his Dad has been discussed before, but I stumbled across the Wikipedia page for it and was a pretty interesting read
Some cool/weird/interesting features:
Most of the wood came from an 18th-century fireplace mantel that a friend of the family was about to throw away. The neck was hand-shaped into the desired form; this was difficult because of the age and quality of the wood. According to Brian, there are two wormholes in the neck of the guitar.
Imagine, that wood laying there for so many years, who would have thought what it would become.
The tremolo system is made from an old hardened-steel knife-edge shaped into a V and two motorbike valve springs to counter the string tension.
Now that is rock n roll 8)
Neck: Bolt-On, one large bolt which sits beneath the fingerboard and goes through a hole in the body then a nut is then attached
???
Fretboard: Black-painted oak
I recall hearing oak for a body once (I think) but not for a neck... and painted black??
I reckon its pretty awesome, he still uses it, but has replica's now.
