What recording software

I'm trying to determine the best recording software for my needs. Basically, what I'm after is a program like Fruity Loops or Reason 7. Now, I'm on a mac, so, that pretty much takes FL out of the picture. I downloaded the demo version of Reason 7 and it seems pretty decent, I like it, it just costs R6000 if I want to buy the full version, not really an amount I want to spend right now. I'd like to be able to do some midi recording and then also some "real" instrument recordings too. I work in video now and would be great to be able to do some basic film scores. So, what's my best option? Reason? Logic Pro? Pro Tools? Something else? I don't mind paying for it if I have to, but then I want to know that it is the best for what I need. Thanks! ?

domhatch wrote +1, especially given the depth of reaper as a daw. not that i've had the opportunity to stack it up against, say, protools; i'm not at that level. but someone like tomcat is (where is that chap these days anyhoo?), and he and many others would vouch for reaper at much more than its price level

And they had a bit of a workshop with Tomcat as well. Maybe we should organize another DAW workshop?

it was myself, deefstes and one other dude - can't remember who. it was very informative, and a brilliant overview was had by all. another one would be a most splendid idea - highly recommended.
