What annoys you most about guitars or guitar playing?

I'm thinking general things (so not "I get annoyed when I try to play a Flying V sitting down")... and if anyone has a solution, shout! For me: changing treble strings (getting it to sit nicely and neatly in the tuning peg), rusty string trees and getting power to pedals (it just seems like we should be in a battery/ac adaptor free world by now). Luckily bass avoids some of these ?

I have never used strap locks and never had a guitar or bass come out of its strap. I think this may be due to the fact that I like my guitar/bass to cup my right pec nice and firmly! Short strap, stable strap.

Try buying a 4 pack of Grolch beer, get the dumpies as they have that relocking lid, take the red washers off and use those as strap locks, had them on my strat for a year now and my straps have never come off since.

My number 1 gripe is with my pinkie finger, that little s#it has a mind of its own!

i've heard of this before. plus, bonus, you get to drink 4 decent beers. i've bought the beers, but keep forgetting to keep the washers. oh well, back to the store...

Yea, I've got Grolsch straplocks, never let me down once. And, no, I'm not drinking, my Dad did that for me! Got the tip from Mika actually.

Walking into a BIG American music store, and seeing these kids/teens/early20's guys, 'testing' an amp.
What do they do 1st after they plugged in ?
MAX the gain knob on the most extreme channel and do some metal-solo-thing.
WTF ??? . . . and i see it (and have to hear it) every single time i go to places like that !

Classic example : Last July, i am in Guitar Center (Seattle).
I saw a MINT 1966 Gibbo ES-125, for $1500.00 - I KID YOU NOT ! (no case though)
As i plugged into an equally old tweed Fender (believe it was a 5E3, asking price; $1900.00), in comes a guy, late 20's i think, plugs into a Mesa (also 2nd hand) and bloody wails away.
The inconsiderate bastard completely drowned the clean sound of that weathered looking Tweed.
I messed around with the guitar a bit, and walked out. (it was in a sound proof 'testing booth')

And the biggest, NO. 1 thing, that pisses me off about playing guitar as a South African :

Strap locks are a must. Grolsch washers at least.

You know... I say this, but I've never used strap locks myself ? I have sloppy technique so I hold the neck when I play... It's saved me more than a few times when the straps have come off

But yes, for someone with a loose grip, they are a must!

I'd say they're a must for anyone who plays standing up. One more level of safety. 'Cause you never know... you know ?

If you don't mind leaving the strap on you can always unscrew the button and throw on a washer - perma strap for Tele. Never Grolsched myself.
Straplocks on everything else but they do seem to weaken the screw hole for the button, leading to toothpick repairs.

My wife talked me into buying a new guitar after mine got damaged...I was just gonna play it as it was (cos it was "functional" as I had the neck glued).

Let's see:

1) Corksniffers (I think I may be a bit guilty of this sometimes :-[ but then again, who doesn't drool in a guitar shop...)

2) The guys who think that there skill is directly proportional to the gear that they use. That their (insert brand here) amp/guitar/cable from 19-voetsak somehow gives them better skills that anyone else in a 200km radius. ?

3) The "sound engineers" (note the inverted commas) that profess to know their stuff and then go and hang a SM57 from your amp handle so that the diaphragm of the mic is hanging on the bottom edge of the speaker and pointing at the floor. Really?! ??? "You're telling me you spent how long studying this...?"

4) Sharkfins

5) Stretching new strings, and fearing that they are going to snap...

6) My insecurities.

7) Spending more time on the Internet looking at gear than actually playing.

My two guitaring gripes.
Somebody else blowing their gobs in my mikes going fwwoot Fwwwot. I can deal with my own germs, not other people's, no matter how nice they look or behave. >☹
Jamming with friends and using a pleccie on electric, then the sound sucks, chuck the pleccie and go fingerstyle, then friend goes pleccie and your sound disappears..... Amp volume just beyond reach.
Oh yeah! finger nail care. I always have too long or chipped nails when it matters ☹

These two! You do that half looking at the strings, half protecting your face kind of thing. And then spend hours watching YouTube demos, but when you actually get the gear you're already thinking of what to buy next and check out demos for that...

For me one of the most irritating things is when I'm gassing for a piece of gear and I go through all the motions of reading up on it, checking reviews, checking demos on Youtube etc. Then when I pull the trigger and get the piece of gear I'm disappointed with it and it's not what I hoped for. Some things you have to take a gamble on because it's not possible to demo it yourself first.

Another thing is that after investing a fair bit of cash for a great piece of gear to only have it on special a month later for half what I paid.
