Hi,
Pleas excuse some of my ignorance shining through here...
I need to replace a ceramic resistor on my amp, as the cathode bias is set a little hot. Searching online a lot of people throw all sorts of brand names around (eg xircon)...
I've found the resistor value and rating that I need at communica, but I don't think it's a specific brand. Does that sort of thing matter with resistors? Is one brand better than another or is it a matter of finding the value, rating and the desired tolerance and you're good to go?
Thanks,
R.

Brands don't matter so much in resistors, but rating is vital in tube amps - take a higher rating than the schematic says if possible. You can also go all out on the super duper 0.00001%% tolerance unobtanium-wound ones, and spend another R10.

Thanks Gearhead!
I figured out why my amp was eating valves as quickly as it does. The cathode bias was set to dissipate at 16w per 6v6. I upped the resistor ever so slightly to cool it down to 13w, which is within the limits for the JJs I put in there.
I had to do a little refreshing, but who knew high school science would be so useful as a guitar player!!I did the whole I = V/R and P = V x I to make sure that the resistor's rating is sufficiently high. Amp still sounds great afterwards and the valves should be slightly happier now.
