Last TJ's Open Mic of the year

Last thursday of this month - the 30th. Host is yours truly.

Venue is the ladies bar, Marks Park, Judith Rd, Emmarentia. Lots of parking. Food and drinks may be ordered from the Marks Park staff.

Format: No backtracks! Acoustic instruments. TJ's provide the PA (mics and leads into the desk). Sets are 3 songs or 15 minutes, whichever comes up first. If the night is not fully subscribed then you may get longer sets. You can play originals or covers. You can perform instrumentals. You can even perform a capella. You can bring fiddles, mandolins, dobros, flutes, gob irons, ocarinas and whistles with or instead of guitars.

Get there early so you can book a slot that suits you. Doors open 19:15, first performance is at 20:00 (usually the host, but if it's a busy night I will sacrifice my slot so that somebody else can play).

Admission is R25 - playing or not.

You have two weeks to go. Your set is good now, but another fortnight's practice will see it get even better.

Seems Ilse and I will be bringing along a vocalist and giving this a go. We have less than a week to prepare ? I was keen to wait for the first one in the new year, but our vocalist insists we do it now ?

Ok, I think there will be enough GFSAers to fill a table. The room used for open mic nights doesn't have many tables and has even less with a view, but I'll try to slap a reserved sign down. I'll be there from about 19:00.

I think the storm discouraged some folks, but a fun time was still had. From GFSA we had the redoubtable Fingerpicker running the technical side! Sean's trio "Days of Rain" (how did they decide on that name?) played their first gig and showed great promise. Deefstes was persuaded to do a set at short notice and delivered some fine Afrikaans songs (not Robbie or Kurt or Juanita etc). I hosted and so had to kick proceedings off.

First open mic of 2014 will be end February. Get practicing!
