A month away.....mind you.
I've wanted a drum kit for zonks and after going for a few lessons, I knew that it's something that I'd love to take further, I also found that it improved my guitar and singing ability bigtime, not to mention my timing. I just never had the space for one, or the $$$. Now that the Jam room is on its way to being sorted, she gave in and said ok, If i cover half the cost, my budget, R7500.
I checked junktree and gummail as well as the usual places and there was either really old gear that need a full work over or it was really sh*t asian brands. Some fool even offered me a.....brace for it.....ready?
lolz.................
Then I saw an add on FB at the Music Store SA site for a Pearl Export set with some extras, for a more than fair price or R3800, I didn't even try and haggle with the guy and I always haggle, but I've seen EX kits go for R6500 in similar condition, so I didn't even bother.
For this price I was expected something that was in bad shape, but I was surprised. The Cymbals are probably this kits weak point, so first on the list will be a new ride and a new crash and china at least. The hi hat will do for a while until I know where I am. The shells are pretty much perfect and the skins have a few sessions left on them. I scored 3 extra stands with the kit with one having a practice pad on it. I'm going to have to look at new cushion washers, new washers as well as new wing-nuts as it has a mix match of a lot of things at the moment.
The one thing that I'm not nuts about is the fact that the larger of the toms is mounted on the ISS system and I'd prefer a floor mount, with the ISS it clamps onto the one crash stand with a clamp. The PO told me that he never had issues with it and he's been playing it since 2006. Youc an see how it's mounted in this pic.
The PO was really a cool cat, I dig dealing with nice people when it comes to buying and selling.
Overall.....................I'm chuffed. Will snap some new pictures this weekend when I have it set up properly.
Now I just need a new drum teacher in the Pretoria region as my last guy moved................anyone know of anyone?
