FNB stadium. Eish. I'm so not keen on stadium gigs, but I might make an exception for the Boss. I saw him in a big stadium in '88 and it was one of the most amazing things I ever beheld. Genuine charisma, great stage craft, seriously ass-kicking band behind him. A seriously great performance.

Obviously you have never seen the Boss Live? And if you are basing your assumption on guitar talent, you are clearly underestimating Nils.

oh no, no underestimation at all, merely my subjective view...I would far rather listen to Dan than the E street band. fully acknowledge that there are some amazing members in the e street band .....

some tastes vary, is all

Yes. It's been a while since I saw Springsteen and the E-Street Band in action, but back then there was a theory that you couldn't TRULY understand Springsteen and all the hype around him unless you'd seen him live, where after it would all make sense. That theory held considerable water. If Springsteen can still hit that sort of form, still has that real charisma then the potency of the live act that will hit our shores is not to be underestimated.

+1 on Nils too. Ranking players on a scale is a fraught business, but when I saw them live they stretched out a lot more than on record and Lofgren took a couple of spectacular solos that showed a lot more than he shows on the record and packed a real punch.

I'm actually surprised Bruce has a opening act, usually they don't. He seems to take up both slots in continuous playing.

In fact he didn't play on a lot of the classic Springsteen records. Springsteen and Steve van Zandt handled most of the guitar chores until the latter's departure. When Lofgren arrived he did a lot of live shows in a big period for the band but he didn't play on Born In The USA (Springsteen did all the electric guitar on that) and then only played on a couple of tracks on Tunnel Of Love, after which Springsteen toured some more then parted ways with the E-Street Band.

Great exposure for Dan though. Unless they put him on at 5pm when the stadium is still filling up.

Yeah, he's been around the block a few times. Played with Neil Young for a while (a lot on piano) and had a solo hit or two. But I remember being in that stadium and having the top taken off of my head by a solo and thinking, with what remained, that I hadn't realised that he could do THAT.
