In fact he didn't play on a lot of the classic Springsteen records. Springsteen and Steve van Zandt handled most of the guitar chores until the latter's departure. When Lofgren arrived he did a lot of live shows in a big period for the band but he didn't play on
Born In The USA (Springsteen did all the electric guitar on that) and then only played on a couple of tracks on
Tunnel Of Love, after which Springsteen toured some more then parted ways with the E-Street Band.
