Yes.

Buy a pointy guitar so you can fend off the loan sharks with it later when they come to take your tv and break your knees

no man, how tough a loan shark can someone called queenwilliam be? ?

Josh-Hayes

Go check in the classifieds, there is somebody offering "Urgent Personal Loans" there.

Wait!? What the heck ???

Anyway, a good principle is not to spend borrowed money on something that is consumable (i.e.: a holiday). It's up to you to decide really.
A payment plan for gear is a slightly different story.

With all due respect, shouldn't the admins have taken those ads down hours ago?

Well, if someone had actually bothered reporting them, they would have been. I do all the day-to-day moderation and as it happened I hadn't looked in the classifieds today.

As it was I've been wondering what the hell you were all talking about and scrutinising the banner ads to find out.

I tried but couldn't find a "report to moderator" button/link. If it's there I missed it. The one on the normal threads is easy enough to see though.

Same here... The classifieds don't seem to have that function.

Apologies, I see the classads don't have the report feature. In future, you're welcome to PM me directly if anything odd shows up there.

I do manage to get 99% of things before many see them, but these things do happen from time to time...

I hate banks and I hate owing them even more. >☹
I have to be honest though, over the years I did borrow money from dad when I saw a great deal and it as worth it. Banks loans for gear however is a no-no in my books.

Okay, cool. Will do.
I think that's the only ad I've seen so far that needed reporting. It was posted previously too. Or a very similar one was anyway.

domhatch

without getting into an argy-bargy or anything, i haven't seen any ads on the site i would consider reporting. yet. i also think we're (almost) all grown-up enough to make the appropriate decision for our respective situation, and if anything is in need of reporting, i'm sure we all know what action to take.

personally, i've never been in a situation where i need a loan to finance gear. until now.

that prs starla at marshall in cape town might stand a pretty good chance of changing all that, however. mrs dh may have a completely different take on the subject, however...

He-he, ja saw those in the classifieds yesterday and assumed they would be gone the next time I log in - thanks Alan. Google seems to have snapped on to the thread title though because all the other ads I now see are of the "need a Loan" variety.....

I've always been pretty good about not spending money I don't have, especially concerning gear. Thus far I managed to save up to buy hobby related stuff like Gear and Games etc., but after getting married and buying a house the steady little stream of disposable income I had has slimmed down to a trickle. (Even and my Sars refund went towards trying to create a garden out of our front yard jungle! :-[)
Closest I ever came to buying gear with borrowed money was my first electric guitar way back when I started out - a Starfire Strat and Amp Combo which I bought on three month lay-buy. A deposit of R800 and two more payments of R600 each (HUGE chunk of my income back then btw) secured me the privilege of owning an electric guitar and amp so crap I nearly quit playing :'(

Josh-Hayes

Woah! Sorry ICM, I see I kinda changed the subject of the thread. :-[
