kirk lorange and his machined brass slides

so a while back i purchased 'plane talk', kirk lorange's proprietary system for, essentially, learning your way around the fretboard. i read the book/comic, and it made sense to me - the approach and the system, etc. i've just never put it into practice. this is something i intend to remedy in the immediate future.

anyway, that's besides the point. packaged in with the book came a dvd on playing slide in standard and dropped d tunings. kirk plays with a slide on his little finger, and manufactures and sells custom brass slides.

two things. first, having had a brief look at the dvd, it's something i'd really like to get into. and it seems fairly well broken down in the dvd, so at least getting a grip on the basics won't be too difficult. the second thing is that the slides he sells look great, a bit of weight, all that. the only problem is they only come in one size, and i don't like the thought of purchasing something that might not fit when it arrives.

i guess the upshot is; anyone have any idea where to start looking for a pinky slide?

Sounds cool. The fretboard thing and the slide. I like playing slide in standard tuning and it would be cool to get into it a bit more. Where did you get the book and DVD?

Have a look at the Jime Dunlop range. They have a variety of sizes and materials and, being Jim Dunlop, they're fairly readily available. They do a Johnny winter signature one (chrome though, not brass). He plays with his pinky.

Apparently his original ones were just cut from a hi-hat stand or something. I have one made from a tom stand that fits my ring finger and it works nicely. I prefer bottles though.

ordered directly from the site. you can get plane talk, the slide dvd, all the products off the site, i'm sure. head on over and take a look (link above will take you to the slide, and i think you can access the rest from there - kirk is based in oz).

indeedy. when i got mine, it wasn't that much, and the rand was a teensy bit stronger...
