So what's better than a Half Stack?

Picked up an old early '70 Marshall straight cab late last week, so my '68 angled cab has a friend to sit on. The straight cab also has some lovely sounding old G12H 30w greenbacks in it.

I've got the AFD running into the top angled cab, the 'wreck into the straight cab below it and the JMP into the 1960a. 'wreck sounds absolutely superb into the straight cab. Totally different to the angled cab, even though they have the same speakers.

So, as childish as this is, this sight brings a smile to my face every time I walk into my study.

Childish it ain't. I'm not a big Marshall fan, but even I have to admit there is something about the presence of a full stack that induces awe ...something only exceeded by two or more full stacks. ?

That's exactly what I'm talking about Alan! Even though I'm not actually running the 100w head into both cabs, the visual presence is something to behold.

As a HUGE fan of 70's and 80's rock, the sight of a full Marshall stack is etched into my brain.

As a guy who wasn't at the front of the queue when tallness was dished out, I also find it kinda cool to have to reach up to tweak the amp's settings! ?

Hi Danny, I don't know about wonders, all I did was give his amp a bit of love! Again, its something that makes me smile to know that he's out there gigging a great sounding, well maintained, early 70's amp and I'm really thrilled that he's happy with it and in turn is making others happy who get to listen to him playing. ?

You probably know I have a JVM - HS, but then I don't play in a bands anymore, so ..... HS is more than enough.... ?

I think I recall seeing photos of your JVM on here. Sadly I've never had the pleasure of trying one out.

I don't play in a band at this point in time either nor have I for a very long time. I've owned all sorts of combo amps, but I just love the sound that comes out of a nice 4x12, even at low volumes, but I couldn't see myself carrying one around to gigs. Owning 1 new cab and 2 old ones, I can tell you the vintage ones are significantly heavier. I can easily handle my 1960a, but the vintage cabs are hernia inducing to lift.
