Hunting a Dylan song

lindsmuse

He is making it IMPOSSIBLE to find the song that's stuck in my head. All that I have left of the lyrics are either: 'She's got some' or 'I've got some' or 'He's got some' and I'm sure the next word is 'pretty' ... now I know I can go watch the whole movie again and try and find it but I thought Google would do the trick ... It turns out he has written so many gazillion songs jam packed with lyrics and it becomes so distracting ... And I can't find it ...

I was amazed actually when I watched 'No direction home' as I wasn't really a Dylan fan altho' I loved some of his songs. He was so young and these lyrics were so intense and clever. He certainly loathed being interviewed ...

Tickles my memory of one of the Wilburies songs, but I don't think it's that.

If you Google "The Bootleg Series, Volume 7: No Direction Home: The Soundtrack", you'll come up with a playable list of tracks.

Otherwise I can pass it on to my resident Dylanophile. ?

It's a very good movie. One of the attractions for me was the archival footage of the likes of Odetta and Muddy Waters.

You can try going to bobdylan.com and searching, but the search engine doesn't seem that helpful to me. Searching for got some returns every lyric with the word got and the word some. Searching for "got some" returns nothing. So for a test I searched for "rolling stone" and also got nothing. So it seems that you can't search for phrases, only for individual words.

got some whittles it down to 72 songs that contain both words. Have fun.

Hmmm... another test suggests that songs that match the search terms exactly are listed first.

So if you search for just like a woman you get the song with the exact phrase "just like a woman" first, and then any song with the words "just", "like" and "woman" in any order.

I also searched for tweeter and got no songs amongst the results. So the Wilbury songs are not there.

Amazing songwriter, even now still writes brilliant music. Hope this helps. I wish I could help more but sometimes his vernacular is hard to understand. Copy and paste the link.

OK I couldn't stand it any more so took quick squiz at the movie- it's 'Just like Tom Thumb's Blues - I just love it - and it's right at the beginning! Can only find the track on Youtube that was embedded in the movie ... maybe a nice cover would do it if I can find one. Here are the lyrics in the meanwhile. Thanks for the input and will check that Muddy Waters bit out again Bob ..

"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outa you.

Now if you see Saint Annie
Please tell her thanks a lot
I cannot move
My fingers are all in a knot
I don't have the strength
To get up and take another shot
And my best friend, my doctor
Won't even say what it is I've got.

Sweet Melinda
The peasants call her the goddess of gloom
She speaks good English
And she invites you up into her room
And you're so kind
And careful not to go to her too soon
And she takes your voice
And leaves you howling at the moon.

Up on Housing Project Hill
It's either fortune or fame
You must pick up one or the other
Though neither of them are to be what they claim
If you're lookin' to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don't need you
And man they expect the same.
Now all the authorities
They just stand around and boast
How they blackmailed the sergeant-at-arms
Into leaving his post
And picking up Angel who
Just arrived here from the coast
Who looked so fine at first
But left looking just like a ghost.

I started out on burgundy
But soon hit the harder stuff
Everybody said they'd stand behind me
When the game got rough
But the joke was on me
There was nobody even there to bluff
I'm going back to New York City
I do believe I've had enough.

It was 'They got some' not 'they've got some' ... ?
