Gibson vs fender

I have NEVER played a Fender and have no interest in changing that stat. I have always been an Iby fan and have an old Roadster 540R as wel as a 12-strin accoustic.

Of the two brands you mention I would most like to own a proper Gibson Les Paul but as I am not selling my house to own one, I have settled on a Tanglewood knock-off that does the job admirably.

I like the fender strat for what I play. I would love to own a real Gibby LP but my Tokai is really good enough for now 8).
So I guess its a fifty fifty call fro me. Jis now I feel like real draad sitter

On the F vs G thing, I like both and respect them for creating the base designs of most electric guitars we play today. However, I am not really a BrandFan - not that there is anything wrong with that, but I feel we sometimes get hung up on the brand above all else. So I don't understand generalizations on a brand bases - doesn't compute in my brain and appears illogical but that's just me and my brain ?

Have to agree with you. Although I would say that a Les Paul is my favorite guitar to play, I'm not some kind of brand loyalist. I like many different brands including both gibson and fender and don't see why I should have to choose one over the other. They are all different and variety is the spice of life.

If one looks at the replies it seem to me that each of the F and G guitars have their own place in a specific type of music ones plays. Some styles of music will almost certainly demand either a F or G brand, sometimes it just looks better never mind the sound they produce. So if limit yourself to that type then you should know what to buy, irrespective if you can afford it.
I think that the F brand is more popular than the G brand certainly in numbers in the market. F brand has also much more models and designs within the models. You can get the same sound out of a F brand as the G brand I think as long as you get the correct amp hooked up to it. The F brand people are better marketer's than the G brand that's obviously why there are more of them around(at least I see more of them used than the G brand, either life, or on youtube video's etc.)

My obvious conclusion is that there is no better one, some people simply prefer the one above the other either for above points or because it simply feels, suites, styles, sounds, tastes or other better to them. Never mind some people ego that needs to been taken care of as well. Some of them just use a brand that is sponsoring them.

Of course professional guitar players will simply get a good(to them which includes all the above points for them) guitar(any brand) and use it to make music and could be either a F or G or any other brand for that matter.

I said it before, you simply not discuss taste as everyone's is different. And I'm sure there are more of the F brand in SA then the G brand.

Hmmm... a daft question IMHO. Never mind the differences regarding suitability for particular genres. I think that You'll find that you could play 100 Fender Strats of different years and countries of manufacture and perhaps only one of them might jump out and grab you by the proverbials. This argument, most respectfully and having been guilty of the same thing in the past, only applies if you are more interested in the brand name than the sound produced, like an affinity for certain cool hair care products etc There are hundreds of thousands of mass produced, and mainly oriental, instruments that will crap all over your average American Fender or Gibson. Having said that however, It is a pleasure to own an instrument made by one of those companies, that I consider to be able to set the bar by which to judge all others. Chalk and cheese. Good guitars are like good people, they have their own strong personalities and they don't care a hoot about looks or fashion. You know when they're around.

I have a few of each, Fenders (USA), and Gibsons (USA obviously). In fact, I have a few other makes as well. I love 'em all to bits, no question !!!

and I voted the first vote to Gibson.
I really love both company's there is not a better clean sound for me than a Fender.
But a Gibson is just that WOW factor , If you seen one and hear one you are just WOW I want one!!
