so like always i'm a huge sucker for anything old... and this morning i pop into my local music store to see this ...which was traded in ... plugged it in... paid the man for it ...
i have no clue what this is.... and whats so odd is that the guitar is a "mish mash" of fender and gibson features...
on the fender side it has the obvious fender headstock , very large and 70 ish .... and the basic strat type body shape and bolt on neck ...and a jazzmaster type trem with string rollers
on the Gibson side it has a tilt back headstock ..a trussrod cover on the headstock very gibson the binding and inlays are more gibson than fender
then thos odd P90 ish pickups,,, not fender at all ....and i have not measured it but the scale length to me feels like it's closer to gibson 24.ish length than fenders 25.5 ish
also the body may be strat like in looks and contours but it is HUGE it's the size of a P bass and won't fit into my standard fender molded case that fits strats or tele's
also the body is made out of 1 piece of wood .... as i mentioned bigger than a standard strat size but thinner and about equally as heavy as a standard usa strat .... i can see the body is one piece cos the back has the grain clearly visible and no interuption in the swils of grain ...also it's not a cap as there's a nasty ding to the wood on the side and it's solid ... no laminate that i can see...
it says only made in japan on the neckplate ...no serial number
it sounds great, which is why i bought it ,the frets are good for it's age ...no buzz or wear and the neck is good.... with a playable low action ...the trem or vibrato is fun to use and thanks to the roller bridge pieces keeps tune better than most trems i used ....
it has a good build and sounds fabulous ...i wouldn't change a thing except the sunburst is very dark and depressing .... but even the pups are way nice sounding
suitably impressed so far
so what do i have here...tried surfing the net but very little info ....
it will make a great 'surf guitar" ala jazzmaster ...so unless it's some sought after collectors piece (which i very much doubt) it's a great player so i may spray it a very light baby blue and put a white scratchplate on it and use it in the "indie" band i'm playing in ....
so kinda like a fender jazzmaster mixed in with some gibson features....
