Ok so recently there have been alot of debates on the forum about rookies and pro's and their contributions etc... So I thought it would be interesting to see what the composition is of the regular forumites... Call it a GFSA sensus for interest's sake. No intention to start a debate or to troll. I'm more like too long to be beginner, but only just good enough to (maybe) have a shot at the very bottom end of intermediate. Getting somewhere though. Got a band, so progress is a bit better than it's been in a while.

Back in the day gigged constantly, but never got paid enough not to have a day job as well... (Eating baked beans in a squat never appealed!)
Nowadays just jam with buddies, and do the occasional gig. Far more relaxed.

Used to be a full-time pro. An "ex-pro" option would be helpful! Once you've been a pro, IME, you continue to treat music as a pro would, rather than in a classic "bedroom musician" way, even if that's closer to where you play (and even if, as you're not gigging most nights and working on your chops for several hours a day, you can't really mix it with today's pros unless you get a bit of a run-up...).

I had aspirations to be a pro musician but tratded my dreams for a conventional career. Aspiring now to be a semi-pro after years of playing in mostly gospel bands and last stint one-man band outings (does it count as gigs?). I think the downside to many good musicians is that we don't know the music business well enough. Sorting that weakness out at the moment than changing my status soon to semi-pro.

Did couple of open mics! But not much happening these days....

Bedroom Intermediate I thinks...

Nice one, Dafiz.

I mostly play at church these days, but get regular calls for odd stuff from arty friends. Odd stuff being a mix of theatre shows, live band etc. That's fun in itself because one day it can be Rocky Horror, the next it's an Elton John tribute show, and so on. Challenges me to step out of my comfort zone and learn something new, when playing a style I normally wouldn't.

Now if a handful of us can get the theatre types to bite on a live version of The Wall...

bedroom (study, to be definitive about it) intermediate. it is my dream and goal to own and operate a working recording studio, and for this to be my soul, sorry, sole source of income. i have little interest in standing on stage. i want to compose and to help others bring their compositions to life.

Now that is a noble aspiration sir!

For me it doesn't really matter if I am a pro or a newb... some people reckon I am pretty pro (like my wife...hehe) others will reckon I am a super newb... All I really care about is making music (have started practicing vocals now and it's TOUGH...limited range, battle to pitch), improving my skills and helping make making music more accessible to other people...
